You floor is your foundation, the blank canvas of your work space on which everything else, from equipment to staff, is placed. As with anything in your office it’s imperative to consider your options when choosing flooring, ask yourself what you want to achieve: comfort, style, safety or efficiency? With carpets you don’t have to choose, choose the right kind and it can offer you everything you need.
Health and Safety
Hard wood flooring can be attractive but it comes with risks; the ease of slipping and falling are increased, especially if wet, and the damage caused by falling onto a hard surface is likely to be more significant. With a carpet you have greater underfoot traction to minimise slippage but not all falls can be avoided, if an accident does happen carpet offers a cushioned surface to break the fall and decrease the risk of sustaining an injury.
Carpets are a dust trap; dust is not effective by breeze or the moving of chairs or feet meaning it is kept safely underfoot until vacuumed reducing the threat of germs and allergy risks.
Minimising Sound
Office noise is inevitable but it does cause distraction, trying to concentrate on a report with every conversation in the office booming in your ears is enough to put anyone off their work. Carpets eliminate impact noise meaning when the office is on the move you won’t mistake it for a herd of elephants, you’re free to get on with your work in peace and quiet.
Energy Efficient
Carpets help retain warmth in a room so you can keep your office heating bills low; they create a thermal heat barrier saving up to 10% of heat in a room dissipating as it would with wooden flooring. There’s also no need to spend a fortune on expensive polishes and varnishes to keep it looking fresh, just a quick vacuum is all that’s necessary.
At Butler Cox Flooring we provide any flooring you require in industry and commercial settings, from carpets to linoleum and everything in between. For more information on our extensive range get in touch today on 01235 834114 or fill out our online contact form and we’ll find the best flooring solution for your work space.

Refurbishing your office can make your job more enjoyable and make your working environment more comfortable, after all the office is where your team spend most of their time. However you need to balance fun and professional décor that show your personality and at the same time shows your clients that you’re a professional company. Here are a few tips:
Colours
Once the wall colour has been chosen it’s time to think about the colour of the carpets, choose a colour and style that compliments the colour of the wall. Bright, garish colours can make it difficult for those in the room to concentrate and is often quite distracting.
Furniture
Once the colours and the carpet is decided, next comes the furniture. An office should have basic furniture like a computer desk, ergonomic chair and filing cabinets. When selecting furniture the general health and safety and well-being of both the employees and the clients should be kept in mind. Professional injuries like back pain and eye strain are common nowadays, seek guidance in buying the correct ergonomic furniture and accessories.
Organisation
Just like at home, de-cluttering is very much important in office organisation. Once in a while go through all documents and papers and throw away unwanted stuff. An office cramped with piles of paper will, undoubtedly, look very unappealing to your clients. Create a functional space in the office where items like fax machines, printers and photocopiers can all be store in one place.
Layout
The layout of an office should be in such a manner that each and every employee is able to get some privacy and comfort at the same time and is able to communicate with co-workers and greet visitors.
Decoration
Office decoration may range from indoor plants to displaying art work on the walls. Decorative work, although trivial can create a good friendly impression to the clients.
Here at Butler Cox Flooring we supply a range of flooring, from lino and rubber to durable carpets that will create a fresh stylish look in your office. For more information about our products and services call us today on: 01235 834 114.

Having a checklist before you start your renovation can help you keep organised and ensure that you don’t forget an important step. Once you have an idea of what you wish to accomplish, you’ll need to start thinking about specific plans. If it’s a complex renovation, hire a contractor. In any commercial environment safety in the work place is paramount; whether it is for a commercial kitchen or canteen, a high level of safety is required. It is important to ensure that you and your employees are aware of all health and safety regulations and how to uphold them. Here at Butler Cox Flooring we take safety seriously and have put together this quick guide to improving workplace safety:
Heavy lifting:
Make sure that all employees are aware of the correct ways to lift things. Especially in a commercial kitchen where there it is a lot of heavy lifting to do, it’s essential that that your employees are aware of how to lift these correctly. Bend from your knees not your back.
Correct Uniform:
Those who wear the correct uniform are less likely to be in an accident; employees should be vigilant about wearing the correct uniform and other protective garments when working. Practical and comfortable shoes are also a good way to prevent accidents.
Keeping tidy:
Spills and leaks should be cleaned up straight away to prevent anyone slipping on them. Any spills that have been cleaned up must have a wet floor sign put out to warn other colleagues.
Machinery:
It is essential to make sure that all employees undergo proper training before using any machinery. Both the employer and employee must be 100% confident they know how to work in a way that will prevent injuries. Often sign off training packs are good way to know what each employee needs more training on.
Safety flooring:
In working environments such as busy canteens and kitchens, spillages are commonplace and this can pose a direct danger to both employees and customers. Safety flooring, however, is slip resistant as it is specifically designed for use in areas in which spillages are common. Investing in safety flooring can significantly improve the safety in your workplace.
Here at Butler Cox Flooring we specialise in safety flooring and pride ourselves on our high level of customer service. Why not give us a call today on 01235 834 101 or fill out one of our quick and easy contact forms here?
